What is Beauty?

Today I'm going on an unexpected journey of working out what it means to feel beautiful. Like many women (even the ones I consider stunning) looking in the mirror can be a frightening experience. Not because of what I see... but rather because of the thoughts I have in my head when I see myself. Are you like me and instantly focus in on what you consider to be your flaws? The bits of you that you wish were different or not there at all? There's a lot of focus in the world on building children's self esteem. It sure would reduce the effects of bullying if children felt good about themselves so not to pull down others and/or felt good about themselves so not to allow themselves to be pulled down by others. So, is it what we tell them, drill into them that teaches them their self worth? I don't think so. I think it's how we live in front of them. Do we shine with self confidence, self acceptance and treat ourselves accordingly? Do we show them what it means to truly be loving and accepting of ourselves by living that way? This is something I wanted to change about me and I was going to take this journey slowly and gently. But you know what? The universe had other ideas. So here I am, this is me. My front tooth is a cap and it has broken off. I can't have it seen to until Sunday and even then it may be some time before a solution can be put in place depending on cost and prep requirements of the hole. I choose to not hide, I choose not to smile with a closed mouth, I choose not to talk in a mumble, I choose to be me and allow others to process how I look within them. It's a time to either laugh or cry and though I see an amount of appeal in crying and feeling sorry myself I see many more benefits in laughing. If for nothing else, it exposes my smile and gives me and everyone another opportunity time and again to decide what is beautiful and what we run from. Lots of love Bron.
