Village Mums (East Auckland)
We have a thriving online community via our Facebook page called 'Village Mums (East Auckland)' where we are all able to help each other in many ways.

How it Works
The Village Mums (East Auckland) Facebook group is a space that Mums can make their own.  Mums use this Facebook group to organise get-togethers, create their own support/interest groups (on particular topics/issues), as well as offering and asking for help in all its forms.  (Please note that the group is not a substitute for professional counselling and/or medical services.)

It is a flexible, organic and ever-changing space.

Here are the some ways in which you might like to use our Facebook group:

Ask

  • For perspectives, views, experiences and advice on whatever issue you’re having (child-related or not).

  • For help, if you are overwhelmed at home and need help with chores, cooking or child minding.

  • For clothes, food, household items you need.

  • About job opportunities, rentals, recommendations regarding local services.

  • You might like to find out who lives near your street if you want to meet mums who live nearby for playdates, walks or coffee chats.

Share

  • Any articles, links, quotes or inspirational pictures you think might help other mums.

  • Advice or tips you have or come across to help other mums.

  • Your experiences, stories, happy or sad moments.

  • Your resources, e.g. extra veges in the garden? Nanny share? Carpooling?

  • Knowledge of job opportunities, rentals available, recommendations of local services, any free or low cost programmes/support groups/services running in our area.

Give

  • Give away your unwanted clothes, household items or anything you think other mums could benefit from.

  • Your time. If you have capacity to help, post it on the page but make sure you advise your capacity, e.g. I’m free to help someone around the house this Sat 10am – 12pm.

  • Your resources/skills. If you have a professional skill or products that you are able to give for free now and then, put out a post.  Make sure you only give to your capacity.

Create Your Own Group
If you have your own group already on Facebook or you intend to create one that supports people with a particular problem or is a special interests group post a link to it.

Organise a Get Together
If you would like to bring mums together for whatever reason, go ahead and create an event and post a link to it.

Other Stuff to Note
The Village Mums (East Auckland) Facebook group belongs to all of us so make it your own and start reaching out to each other. All posts should be made in the spirit of asking for or providing support and help to other mums.  We ask that all members be respectful in their communication to each other on the page.
